Welcome to the Global Rehabilitation Alliance

The increasing prevalence of non-communicable diseases and the ageing population are major challenges for health systems in the 21st century.

It is imperative that people with health conditions are supported to remain as independent as possible, to participate in education, to be economically productive, and fulfil meaningful life roles, in order to lessen the health, social and economic burden that these epidemiologic and demographic trends carry.

Rehabilitation, which has been shown to optimize functioning and improve quality of life is thus integral to achieving these aims, and plays a fundamental role in reaching Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, to “Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages”.

As access to emergency, trauma and medical care, as well as assistive products is improved towards Universal Health Coverage, rehabilitation is also needed to ensure their effectiveness and impact are maximized.

Many countries face this growing demand with limited capacity to deliver rehabilitation services and fail to adequately address the existing needs of the population.

The Global Rehabilitation Alliance was founded in May 2018 with the aim of being a powerful advocacy platform to further the Development of rehabilitation around the world
